Where to go next, and when to go there.

If you're looking for suggestions, TripAdvisor (SmarterTravel's parent company) has announced its

    Travelers' Choice Award Winners

. Winners were picked for travel both domestically and abroad. And, helpfully, TripAdvisor has paired its readers' choices with its own data to suggest least expensive months to visit, average hotel rates, and best available airfares.

Here are the 10 top-rated U.S. destinations, together with the least expensive months to visit:

    2. Maui, Hawaii - Least expensive month: October
    3. Las Vegas, Nevada - Least expensive month: April
    4. Oahu, Hawaii - Least expensive month: November
    5. Orlando, Florida - Least expensive month: August

And when travelers were asked to choose their favorite destinations regardless of country, their top-10 choices were these:

    11. Paris, France - Least expensive month: August
    12. London, England - Least expensive month: April
    13. Rome, Italy - Least expensive month: August
    14. Bali, Indonesia - Least expensive month: April

    19. Istanbul, Turkey - Least expensive month: May
    20. New York City, New York - Least expensive month: August

Most of the choices are old standbys, which may be disappointing to those looking for fresh ideas. But this is, after all, a popularity contest. For those in search of somewhere a bit less mainstream, there are other recommendations further down the list. At number 22, for example, is Pigeon Forge, Tennessee (home of Dollywood); and at number 19 is Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (known for its beaches and golf courses).
